On 11 May, the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest officially kicked off in Basel, Switzerland, with an elegant and spectacular opening ceremony.

The historic city centre, which served as the venue, was transformed into a special festival atmosphere that afternoon, reflecting the importance of the event and the richness of the local culture.

At the beginning of the event, the President of the Government of Basel, Conradin Cramer, welcomed the delegations from the 37 participating countries in a ceremony in the central square in front of the City Hall. A special parade then set off, covering 1.3 kilometres of the city. The participants were transported by authentic vintage trams, while the audience was entertained by local cultural performances, including traditional Basel drummers, Guggen bands, Alpine horn players and modern techno performers.

A spectacular part of the march was the crossing of the Mittlere Brücke bridge, the city’s landmark, from where participants arrived at the Eurovision Village, where a special concert by Luca Hänni at 7pm provided a special concert experience. The cultural cavalcade continued until late into the evening, with DJs keeping the mood high all night long.
