Madrid 2024 – On 10 May, the EBU and Spain’s Corporación de Radio y Televisión Española (RTVE) announced that the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will take place on Saturday 16 November at Madrid’s Caja Mágica.

RTVE has taken over the organisation of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest after winners of the 2023 Contest, France, handed the opportunity to another country. France had hosted Junior Eurovision twice in the past three years. Spain accepted the invitation following Sandra Valero’s second-place finish at Nice 2023 with Loviu.

Following the Dress Rehearsal 1 of the Grand Final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Spain, it was announced on Friday afternoon 10 May that Madrid, the capital of Spain, had been chosen to host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024. At the press conference, RTVE provided further details about the 22nd edition of the competition, revealing the host city and the date of the event, which will take place on Saturday 16 November.

In February, RTVE accepted the offer from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to organise the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

The decision came after France, the winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 (Zoé Clauzure and Cœur), passed on the opportunity, with France Télévisions winning for the second year in a row and the third time overall – setting a record for Georgia in 2016. The 2023 edition in Nice was the second Junior Eurovision in three years, organised by France Télévisions, the French broadcaster, which decided to withdraw as organiser in agreement with the EBU.

Junior Eurovision 2024 in Madrid will be an even more special year because Spain celebrates the 20th anniversary of María Isabel’s victory at the Contest with Antes Muerta Que Sencilla.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision, welcomed the news of the Host City:

„We’re very excited to be heading to Madrid 55 years after the Spanish capital hosted its last Eurovision event. We are looking forward to seeing RTVE’s exciting ideas to make this wonderful venue come alive, and to welcoming young artists from across Europe to Caja Mágica in November.”.
