Petra Mede rocks again for the second time, joined by Malin Åkerman as the hosts of Eurovision Song Contest 2024

‘Imagine getting the chance to host Eurovision once again! It’s such an incredible honor. After first hosting it alone and then together with the delightful Måns Zelmerlöw by my side, I am now really looking forward to working with Malin. We don’t know each other from before, but we have met a couple of times now, and I’m already completely sold. It’s going to be a joy to work with her!’

Malin Åkerman is used to performing on both stage and screen, but Eurovision is a whole new scene for the actress:

‘I can’t really describe my feelings about this. I am very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way. I have always liked Eurovision and to be a part of this fantastic show together with Petra is a dream come true. Additionally, Petra is one of the funniest women I’ve ever met.’

The Hollywood star (presenter): Malin Åkerman

Malin Åkerman was born in Stockholm and raised in Canada. Today she lives in Los Angeles with her family. Her father currently resides in Falsterbo, so Malin considers Malmö and the surrounding areas as very familiar territory.

Her filmography includes TV series such as The Comeback and Entourage and movies like The Heartbreak Kid and Watchmen. She has acted alongside Tom Cruise, Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock and The Rock.

In Swedish theatres she has appeared in the musical A Piece of My Heart, where she got to showcase her singing talents. Most recently she appeared in the movie One Final Race.

Audience favourite, Eurovision veteran comedian: Petra Mede

Petra Mede is one of Sweden’s most beloved television hosts and comedians, having hosted Melodifestivalen, the QX-gala and Guldbaggegalan and, of course, her own Petra Mede Show, on TV3.

Petra hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 and was praised internationally for her performance, and in 2016 she made her return as host alongside Måns Zelmerlöw – the pair were also voted favourite presenters of the previous decade in an audience vote on an international Eurovision fan site. And this accolade is not only due to the memorable break-time guest production of Love, Love, Love, Peace, Peace.

The hosts told SVT

For the third time, Petra Mede will be in front of 160 million viewers in 2024 to host the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo. On SVT’s Morgonstudion programme on 6 February, she shared her favourite memories of Eurovision Song Contest – and why it was a no-brainer for her to accept the invitation again.

“This is the best action you can get”

– said Petra Mede on SVT’s Morgonstudion.

For Malin Åkerman it will be her first time:

“It’s exciting, unreal and fantastic fun. It’s a real thrill, it’s fantastic and it’s incredible.

– It’s a fantastic and exciting experience for me,” she tells SVT.

It’s fantastic to be able to talk about current affairs. Political protests have been known to be taking place around the world, including in Stockholm, Sweden, about the show and Israel’s involvement. A few days ago, 1005 Swedish artists issued a joint petition demanding that Israel be excluded from this year’s competition because of the civilian suffering in Gaza in the war between Israel and Hamas. In the interview, the presenter also asked the new hosts about this:

“This is not my area at all, it’s in the hands of the EBU and SVT. Malin and I have to follow the instructions we are given.”

The producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, Ebba Adielsson, told SVT Nyheter news portal in a press release:

“Malin Åkerman and Petra Mede together are nothing less than an absolute dream couple. Malin, a wonderful personality and one of the most talented actors in Hollywood. Petra, one of the icons of Eurovision, who was also voted the best Eurovision presenter of all time. I am incredibly proud and happy that these amazing women will be leading us through Eurovision Week in Malmö in May”.
