On the afternoon of 26 November, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 took place in Nice, France, at the Palais Nikaïa – watch the coverage again on our website.

In 2023, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Europe’s biggest music competition for children, will once again be held outside the Advent period. The competition week kicked off with Monday’s Opening Ceremony, held at Nice’s iconic Le Negresco hotel. You could follow the event live on our website, and you can re-watch the events here.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 Nice running order, presenters and guest performances

As last year, 16 countries competed in 2023 – including the so-called Big 5 and Estonia, which made its debut in the small competition.

The running order of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 was decided by a combination of chance and curatorial work led by the producers, based on a draw at the Grand Opening Ceremony. At Monday’s event, the draw was made for this year’s final, with Spain opening, the Netherlands closing, and host France 12th. The exact order of the performances was decided by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and France Télévisions to create the most exciting show possible.

On 27 September, it was announced that the Nice competition will be hosted by Eurovision-routine presenter Olivier Minne and model-journalist-television presenter Laury Thilleman – read more about them in our previous recap.

Among the first announcements of the 2023 competition was France Télévisions’ identity vision, found in this year’s Heroes of the Week: Heros – the theme of the Nice competition, which was a huge inspiration for the young people who entered the competition. Read Alexandra Redde-Amiel, Head of Entertainment, Games and Entertainment at France Télévisions, here her thoughts on the 2023 competition theme.
