All about Eurovision Song Contest Turin, in one place – Semi-Final 1 (2022)

This was Semi-Final 1 of the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest on Tuesday

It was an exciting show for everyone who watched the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 on Tuesday night – check out our recap update for all the individual performances as well as the guest productions; watch and relive it with us!

The opening scenes featured a story about an Italian inventor who invents a flying, singing, dancing time machine, a reference to Pinocchio’s inventor Geppetto and the Renaissance inventor of flying machines, Leonardo Da Vinci. The result was Leo the drone, bringing the voice of beauty to the world. The stage overture began with The Sound of Beauty – Italian music and dance met with elements of air, water, earth and fire, and finally the Sun was born as the centrepiece of the Eurovision stage.

Following the competition performances, we saw the PalaOlimpico and the living room transformed into the world’s biggest disco: the Italo-disco performance was performed by some of the biggest names in Italian dance music – DJ/producer Benny Benassi, British band Sophie and The Giants, and Dardust – with Sylvia Catasta conducting, evoking a bit of the SanRemo Festival atmosphere.

When Diodato sang his Eurovision song in an empty Verona arena in May 2020, it captured the mood of Italy, the Eurovision community and the world. Diodato was given the opportunity to sing Fai Rumore in front of a packed PalaOlimpico in the Semi-Final 1 – and it was a moment as powerful as the one he sang two years ago. 2020 has been a year of many wonderful ‘lost’ Eurovision songs, and it’s a really special feeling to hear what this song could have been like if it had been performed on stage in Rotterdam that year. The audience sang along – and so did we…
