All about Eurovision Song Contest Turin, in one place – Semi-Final 1 (2022)

It’s competition week and Semi-Final 1 (2022) of the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin – the first 17 songs will take to the stage on 10 May at 21:00 (CEST); get ready and watch the broadcast with us!

Eurovision Week 2022 is here again and, following Måneskin’s victory, will be hosted in Turin, Italy, this time in the PalaOlimpico sports hall. In our recap, we cover the main details of the first semi-final on 10 May; join us for the first broadcast of the continental competition, which starts at 21:00 (CEST).

Songs and performers of the first semi-final – in order of appearance

The line-up was announced at noon on 25 January 2022 at Palazzo Madama, and 17 of the 36 semi-finalist countries will be represented in the first semi-final. In this first semi-final, in addition to the countries participating in the round, we will also hear excerpts from the songs of France and the host country Italy, and the audience of these countries will be able to vote for the Big 5 finalists. Russia was originally due to take part in this Semi-Final of the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Finals, but its exclusion from the competition means that it will not be able to take part in this year’s continental competition.

Opening & Interval acts

On 30 April 2022, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the official website of the Eurovision Song Contest and the host Italian public broadcaster RAI published information about the opening act and the interval act of the contest.

The Opening Act will feature a number showcasing Italian ingenuity and creativity, while the Interval Act will feature Dardust, Benny Benassi and Sophie and the Giants performing a medley of hits including “Horizon in Your Eyes”, “Satisfaction” and “Golden Nights” with conductor Sylvia Catasta. The first semi-final will also pay tribute to Raffaella Carrà, who died in 2021 and was nominated to host Eurovision 2022 in Turin: the three presenters will also pay tribute to the Italian television legend with a short and a comic dance.

The first show will also include a retrospective on the cancellation of Eurovision 2020. Semi Final 1 will also feature a live performance of the then-qualified Italian artist Diodato’s competition song “Fai rumore”, originally dreamed up for the Eurovision stage, in the version originally performed by the Italian artist who qualified for the competition, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
