American Song Contest 2022: all about the first season – Summary 3/3.

The American Song Contest, the overseas Eurovision, kicked off on Monday 21 March – in the final episode of our three-part round-up, we introduce the presenters of the first season, the performers from each country, how the voting went, and wherein Europe the other big continental contest is following.

In the last few weeks, we’ve covered how the American Eurovision fan fanzine was transformed into an overseas show, and in our second episode, we took a closer look at how the franchise format works. In our final article, we’ve rounded up the highlights of the first season of the American Song Contest, including the presenters and voting process, the 2022 contestants from each state, and how and when to follow the contest in Europe.

American Song Contest 2022 – The Participants*

Just two-and-a-half weeks before, on 3 March 2022, organiser NBC, Atlantic Records, which is the legal representative of the song recording rights, and Eurovision.tv announced the performers for the first season, and then the contest songs in the weeks leading up to the qualifying rounds, which are summarised below:

The presenters of the American Song Contest 2022

On 14 February 2022, NBC, which produces and presents the US format, and rights-holder EBU announced the hosts of the 2022 American Song Contest: Grammy-winning pop superstar Kelly Clarkson and multi-platinum-selling music icon Snoop Dogg will host the first season of the overseas song contest. Previously, the presenting duo have both appeared on The Voice, with Clarkson as a returning coach and Snoop as a “mega mentor” in season 20 in the US.

Kelly Clarkson and Eurovision

Clarkson is an Emmy-winning talk show host and Grammy-winning artist. As America’s original Idol, Clarkson is one of the most popular artists of her era, with more than 25 million albums and 40 million singles sold worldwide. He has released eight studio albums and two children’s books, including the New York Times Top 10 bestseller River Rose and the magical lullaby River Rose. In 2020, she released her critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated studio album Meaning of Life and her powerful single I Dare You, which she recorded with five other artists in six languages, including some of the major Eurovision winners.

“I have been a fan and love the concept of Eurovision and am thrilled to bring the musical phenomenon to America. I’m so excited to work with Snoop and can’t wait to see every state and territory represented by artists singing their own songs.”

Kelly Clarkson performed the winning song of the 2019 Tel Aviv Eurovision Song Contest, the only song to have been a Eurovision winner for two years, a cover of the song Arcade by Duncan Laurence, on her own show on 7 February.

Snoop Dogg and the American extravaganza

Snoop Dogg is a multi-platinum recording artist, actor, philanthropist and entertainment icon. The rapper has reigned unrivalled for nearly three decades, raising the ‘bar’ as an award-winning entertainer and globally acclaimed entrepreneur. To date, he has released 19 studio albums, sold more than 40 million albums worldwide, reached number one on Billboard’s international charts countless times and received 20 Grammy nominations. Snoop Dogg said:
