On December 11, 2022, the 20th (twentieth) jubilee Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, at Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex – watch the broadcast again on our website.

The Silver Sunday show followed the traditional Monday afternoon opening ceremony and Eurovision rehearsal week in Armenia’s capital. The two hosts of the spectacular Republic Square ceremony were Dalita (JESC ARM11), Hamlet Arakelyan and Aram Mp3 (ESC ARM14).

16 countries have entered their own contestants in the jubilee Junior Eurovision Song Contest, with participating countries including Germany, which will be absent in 2022, broadcasting the young people’s music show on the NDR/KiKa children’s channel.

Earlier, at the Opening Ceremony, hosts Dalita and Hamlet Arakelyan randomly drew the countries to perform first and last on Sunday, as well as the position from which Armenia (Host Broadcaster) will perform; the Netherlands won the honour of opening the show, Ukraine were drawn to close, and Armenia drew spot number 15.

The rest of the running order has been determined by the EBU and AMPTV to create the most exciting show possible.

The list of hosts and guest performers for JESC 2022 has been impressive. The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 was hosted by Iveta Mukuchyan (ESC ARM16), and actor-writer-comedian Garik Papoyan, and the Green Room was hosted by Karina Ignatyan (JESC ARM19), who represented Armenia in the Junior contest two years earlier with Colors of Your Dreams.

On 1 December, it was announced that Robin the robot would join the list of hosts: the robot with artificial emotions, developed by the Armenian IT company Expper Technologies, was introduced as a guest host, becoming the first non-human host in the history of Eurovision.

Spin The Magic: a song on the theme of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 and a flag parade kicked off the jubilee broadcast – following the evocation of Maléna’s winning song from last year. While waiting for the results of the online vote, we were treated to a new song by last year’s Armenian winner Maléna, “Can’t Feel Anything”, the country’s 2022 Eurovision entry Rosa Linn sang again, performing her internationally successful song “Snap”, and then the stage in Yerevan was alive with celebration.

20 years of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (20 Years with Eurovision: The Winner’s Show)

The 20th Junior Eurovision Song Contest celebrated with former winners in the Armenian capital: although now adults, 10 Junior Eurovision winners also visited Yerevan – they were introduced by Robin the robot, who also shared a little history. The two-and-a-half-hour show again featured performances by Bzikebi (2008), Ralf Mackenbach (2009), Vladimir Arzumanyan (2010), Candy (2011), Gaia Cauchi (2013) and Vincenzo Cantiello (2014), Destiny Chukunyere (2015), Mariam Mamadashvili (2016), Viki Gabor (2019) and Valentina (2020), and the line-up was closed by the latest winner, Maléna, with her winning song, an excerpt from her song Qami, Qami. In addition to the winning performers appearing in person, we also heard another eight winning songs performed by the Tavush Diocese Children’s Choir.
